Although Walkden is one of the busiest and fast-growing stations on the line, its facilities are basic. However, the situation has steadily improved over the last few years including Help-Point, Ticket Machine, electronic information displays, tannoy, anti-pigeon netting, and CCTV.

In September 2010 high quality CCTV cameras were installed on the platform and in the Booking Hall. The number of cameras was increased by Northern Rail in summer 2011. We are extremely grateful to the Little Hulton and Walkden Community Committee, and Northern Rail, for their joint funding of the CCTV camera installation. |

FOWS have joined with Crumbs and Cafe Chino (both within a minute's walk from the station) to offer discounts for rail passngers holding a valid ticket. |

The station booking office is manned Mon-Fri from 0610 to 1240, Sat 0710 to 1340. The staff are very knowledgable and able to assist with journey planning and purchasing advance tickets, as well as selling tickets on the day of travel. |

In December 2009 a local PA system was installed at Walkden, allowing announcements to be made whilst the Booking Office is manned. Automated annoucements before each train were added in December 2011. |
